Warwick Road United Reformed Church

TEND

To respond to human need by loving service.

Pastoral Care

Pastoral care visits are made by the minister, the elders and others.

Each church friend is allocated to a particular elder.

Prayer concerns are included on the Notice Sheet, in the Prayer Chain, in the Messenger and as appropriate at Elders' and Church Meetings.

Prayers for Wholeness and Healing

These take place from 11.15 am to 11.45 am on the second Friday of the month, except in August.

This ministry has two elements:

  • The core worship, healing and fellowship in the Sanctuary, and extending from it,
  • The crowd of individuals lifted up to God during that worship, and subsequently by members of the core group in their homes.

We are grateful to all our inspiring speakers and for the laying on of hands always given by two people, and generally requested by all present.

Junior Church

Outings, parties and other fun activities are arranged for the children though out the year.

Inter@ctive

In conjunction with the other City Centre Churches, arrangements are made for Saturday activities and holiday clubs for primary aged children.

This enables social interaction between children of many churches and a pooling of adult resources and talents for the benefit of all.

Day Centre

On Tuesdays and Fridays, the Day Centre runs coffee mornings for all and serves set two course lunches for senior citizens.

Arrangements have been made for Henley College students to work in the Centre as part of their training. They help to prepare lunch, make cakes for sale, take orders and serve at table.

On Thursday mornings, the students run their own Café and also serve light lunches. This has proved to be very popular and has quickly established a regular clientele.

Welfare work has continued, giving sympathy to those in trouble, illness or bereavement. A listening ear is always available.

CAMEO (Come And Meet Each Other)

This is a group of elderly people who meet socially once a month in the afternoon.

Meetings are normally held in homes, which limits attendance to around eight members. However, three meetings a year are held at the church, so that more people can be accommodated.

Volunteers who provide hospitality and transport are a key to making CAMEO happen.

Older Person's Teas

Several times a year the less mobile go for an afternoon ride with volunteer drivers and then return to the church for tea.

Wednesday Lunchtime Concerts

A variety of organists, pianists and singers perform to a loyal and enthusiastic audience.

These concerts continue to attract many, who do not otherwise belong to the church fellowship.

Evening Concerts

A variety of concerts are arranged, for example that given by the BBC's theatre organist, Nigel Ogden.

See diary for future events.

Social Activities

In the spring and summer walks are organised, which are generally local and open to all. Many folk from other churches join us.

The congregation regularly shares lunch after the Sunday morning service and there is a Harvest Supper in the autumn.

From time to time Quiz Nights are organized.

Outside Groups

The social and cultural needs of the community are served by a wide range of outside groups who meet on our premises, e.g. Age Concern, a widows' group and occasionally the Spencer Trust.

The Coventry University Choir and Wind Band use the Church for their Easter and Christmas concerts, whilst organ students use it as a practice venue.

Serving the Community

Church folk serve the community in a wide variety of ways.

Sometimes they represent the church but often they do it as individuals.
